This is unemployment which occurs after structural changes to the economy, such as the closure of a sector
Perhaps the most high profile example of structural unemployment in recent years is the closure of the coal mines in the 1980’s by Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government. This policy led to a significant rise in unemployed, and generated anger countrywide. Read more about this example of structural unemployment here:
