Describe the economic characteristics of a developed economy (4 marks)

You must describe at least 2 characteristics to gain full marks.

1 mark for ecah valid description.

1 mark for each valid development.

The exam board won’t accept social characteristics (literacy, infant mortality etc).

A model answer could look something like this:

Developed economies typically have high income levels, with a per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of more than $25,000-$30,000 (1). This high income translates to greater purhcasing power for citizens, allowign for a higher standard of living and increased consumer spending (1).

Another characteristic is advanced industrialisation, where these economies have moved beyond primary sectors like agriculture and raw material extraction (1). They typically have strong manufacturing and service sectors, often with a focus on high-tech and knowledge-based industries, which contribute significantly to their economic output and global competitiveness (1).

Here I have given 2 characteristics, giving a valid description and then a valid development point for both characteristics.
